Canek Zapata is an editor, curator, and internet artist.

He studied Classical Literature at UNAM. His work focuses on creating computational environments that allow the computer to express the unthinkable through audiovisual and written media. He has exhibited at Centro de la Imagen, MUAC, the XIII FEMSA Biennial, Museo Carrillo Gil, the Visual Arts Center at the University of Texas at Austin, Festival El Aleph, Neort++ in Tokyo, Japan, and Musée des Beaux-Arts du Locle. His electronic literature has been anthologized in the Electronic Literature Collection, Volume 4.

Zapata has curated exhibitions at Galería Libertad, the Museum of the City of Querétaro, the Oaxaca Book Fair, The Wrong Biennale 2019–20, and Casa Equis. He is editor and programmer at the electronic literature press brokenenglish.lol. He was editor of Revista 404 and co-curator of Zona Hipermedial with Doreen A. Ríos at the Centro de Cultura Digital.

The artist specializes in digital culture, generative systems such as automatic writing and LLMs, internet art, glitch art, and memes. His writing has been published in Revista de la Universidad de México, PaperMag, Excélsior, Horizontal, Revista 404, and Tierra Adentro.
